Kenya’s entertainment and television industry is mourning after the death of veteran actor and comedian Mzee Ojwang.
Mzee Ojwang real name Benson Wanjau died at Kenyatta National Hospital this evening after being brought in critical condition he had complained of severe chest pain, according to his family Mzee Ojwang had suffered from stress and depression after losing his job at KBC and this led to his health failing.
Mzee Ojwang had to be rescued by Nairobi senator some months back and had eye surgery this is after KBC left him penniless and his health deteriorating.
He had worked as an actor with KBC for more than 30 years from the time it was called VOK, indeed he was a trailblazer in the local entertainment scene and with the likes of the late Otorongongo, Masanduku and Mzee Tama they commanded a huge following, as far as Tanzania they had fans for Vitimbi and Mzee Ojwang and his antics were a joy to watch.
His death is indeed a big blow as a majority of Kenyans who grew up only watching KBC as it was the only station in the 80s and early 90s warmed up to his infectious comedy that has inspired a generation of new age comedians like Churchill, Mwala, Eric Omondi,Mshamba and others.
