Former senior Government officials to be Jailed for fraud

Things are not looking any better for two senior government officials after they were found guilty for misusing the State funds, the two i.e. Former Tourism Permanent Secretary Rebecca Nabutola has been jailed for four years and  ex-Kenya Tourism Board Managing Director Achieng Ong’ong’a has been jailed for 3 years in prison after they were found guilty of defrauding the ministry of Sh8.9 million. On top of these charges, Nabutola has been directed to pay a fine of 1Million or serve two more years and Dr Ong’onga  has been directed to pay 1.5 Million or serve two more years in Jail as well.

The tour operator Duncan Muriuki was sent to prison for seven years without the option of a fine. Muriuki will also pay Sh17.8 million in fines or serve three years in default.

The three were charged in back in May 2009 following recommendations by the then Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission,

It  involved investigations in the illegal payments of money to a tour company that coordinated a visit to the Mara by President Mwai Kibaki and other top government officials which never happened.
